On July 4, 2008 the entire community of Sunland Tujunga came together to celebrate the birth of America. From that great event a group of community organizations banded together to create the Verdugo Hills High School Community Grant Fund. The purpose of the fund is to assist sanctioned organizations at Verdugo Hills High School to raise the funds that are so necessary to the success of these clubs and programs. It is our hope that this effort will help the students, faculty, and leaders of VHHS to run great programs that will benefit all involved. We also hope that this example of people helping people within the community will leave a lasting lesson that can serve the community far into the future.
A community that stands together and works together will succeed and flourish -- together.
Any sanctioned organization, club, or team at Verdugo Hills High School may apply for matching grants up to $500. The Grant Fund Committee
will meet and vote on applications. Those that are approved will receive a check from the Grant Fund equal to the amount raised through the applying organization’s fund raising efforts—Up to $500. This will ensure that only those groups who participate actively in their own activities will benefit from the grants. We know that fundraising takes a lot of time and effort and that sometimes it is difficult to achieve those goals. This is where the VHHS Community Grant Fund can help.
Applying for a matching grant from the VHHS Community Grant Fund is easy. Simply call or email the Verdugo Hills High School Community Grant Fund and request an application. Complete the applications with all the necessary information about your organization, the fundraising event you plan on conducting, the amount you intend to raise, and why you are raising the funds. Return the completed application by mail, in person, or by email. At the next meeting, the committee will vote and let you know if you are approved.
You are a hard working member of the
Drama Club. You need some funds for
costumes for a play you are working
on. The club gets together and decides
to conduct a fundraiser—a car wash
and bake sale put on by all the members
of the club. You expect to raise
$400 at the fundraiser but the costumes
will cost about $800.
Your club completes an application
and requests a grant to match the
$400 you plan on raising. The application
is approved by the Grant Fund
Committee.
You run the car wash/bake sale and
exceed your goal by raising $437.
Since you achieved your goal, the
Grant Fund issues your club a check
to match your achievement of $437.
The Drama Club now has earned $874
that can be used to get those much
needed costumes and your play can be
put on to entertain the community.
By working together, the members of
the Drama Club and the community
have achieved success.
